About the Random Card Draw
Four decks, and what is in them
The Deck option offers a standard fifty-two card playing deck, the same deck plus two jokers, the tarot major arcana on its own, and a full seventy-eight card tarot deck. Cards are drawn without replacement within a single draw, so asking for five gives five different cards — a real hand, not five independent picks.
The major-arcana-only option exists because it is the deck most people actually want for a single reflective draw; the full deck with its four suits is a different and much larger reading.
Reversed cards
Ticking Reversed tarot allowed gives each drawn card an independent chance of coming out upside down. In tarot practice a reversed card is conventionally read differently from the same card upright, which effectively doubles the size of the interpretive deck.
It applies to playing cards too, where it is meaningless in most games — so leave it off unless you are drawing tarot or have invented a use for it.
What a card draw is good for
- Any decision you would resolve with a real deck, without needing a deck.
- Games and party rules — draw a card, do the thing that suit says.
- Writing and reflection prompts, where the tarot decks are genuinely useful as structured ambiguity.
- Teaching probability: draw repeatedly and count, which is much more convincing than being told the odds.
Why a drawn hand is not the same as repeated single draws
Because cards come out without replacement, a five-card draw is a real hand from a real deck — the second card cannot be the first, and the odds shift as the deck depletes exactly as they would in your hands. Drawing one card five times in a row would give you something quite different, with duplicates possible and every draw independent.
That distinction matters for anything where the hand is the point, from poker odds to a tarot spread where the same card appearing twice would be meaningless. It also means the deck is reshuffled between presses: each new draw starts from a full deck rather than continuing the previous one.
Frequently asked questions
Is the draw without replacement?
Within a single draw, yes: ask for five cards and you get five different cards. Each click of Draw starts again from a fresh, full deck, so a card from your last draw can come up again.
Does the tarot deck include reversed cards?
Only if you enable "Reversed tarot allowed" in Options; otherwise every tarot card is drawn upright.
Is the draw truly random?
Yes. Cards are selected with your browser's Web Crypto API, so every card has an equal chance of coming up.
Can I use my own deck of cards?
Not here — this page has four built-in decks. To draw from cards you've written yourself, paste them into the Multiple Random Picker, which also draws without replacement and never sends your list to a server.
